The formnext trade fair in Frankfurt am Main is regarded as the leading international trade fair in the field of additive manufacturing. Allianz GENERATIV took part again in 2018 from 13 to 16 November.

In 2018, the GENERATIV alliance looked back on a 20-year founding history. Starting as an alliance for rapid prototyping, the alliance has established itself firmly in the professional world with ever-growing institutes. Today's Allianz Generative Fertigung has 18 Fraunhofer Institutes among its members, making it a competent partner for a wide range of topics related to additive manufacturing.

In 2018 the Fraunhofer Additive Manufacturing Alliance addressed the general international public by its call "Can Fraunhofer solve your problem?" to identify current questions or issues from enterprises, which are related to additive manufacturing.

From 25-27.09.2018, the Fraunhofer Generativ Alliance was represented for the first time at the Experience Additive Manufacturing in Augsburg.

The Fraunhofer Alliance for Generative Manufacturing presented a newly developed printer driver from the Fraunhofer IGD at the Rapid.Tech and FabCon 3.D trade fair doubles from June 5 to 7, 2018 in Erfurt, Germany. The driver makes it possible to start printing complex and large 3D models within seconds.

The 4th Fraunhofer Direct Digital Manufacturing Conference was held March 14-15 in Berlin. The six keynotes, 58 oral and 12 poster presentations in 17 sessions brought the 160 participants ahead of the game on all aspects of additive manufacturing, including pre- (software, powder) and post-processing (automation, hybridization).

The Chair of Powder Metallurgy and Composite Materials of the Technical University of Dresden in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials is staging the first issue of the European Summer University Additive Manufacturing. This 4-day event provides profound insights into the topic of Additive Manufacturing with a focus on metal parts. In addition to lectures given by prominent experts, it includes plant and institute visits as well as practical hands-on exercises. Upon passing a short final written exam, a certificate of successful participation will be issued to the participants.
